About this experience

Wheel Throwing For Beginners is a 5-week session open to anyone interested.

During each two-hour lesson you will be guided through finding your personal approach to the potter’s wheel. Sessions are open to beginners and those with wheel experience.

Classes 1-4: You will learn/revisit the fundamentals of throwing on the wheel, trimming, attaching handles.

Class 5: In the last class you will learn how to glaze your master pieces (we have dozens of colours to choose from).   Your work then goes into the kiln again for the last time. Picking up your finished masterpieces: We will notify you when your work is ready for pick up.

Particulars:

Note:  Base clay price includes one block of clay but does NOT include your tool kit- you will be required to purchase a starter tool kit (approx $31) in advance if you do not already have necessary tools.  

If bring your own tools here is the min. required tools for class:   Pin Tool, metal kidney rib, pottery sponge, wooden knife or triangle tool, ribbon trimming tool, & wire cutter

Duration: 5 Classes, 2 hours per class + 30min clean up after class

Minimum Age: Adult (16+)

*Please arrive 15mins early to the first class to allow for intros and getting oriented and ready to hit the wheel so we can begin class on time. Subsequent classes, please use your judgement on how early you need to come in order to be ready and on the wheel at class start time. We all want to maximize the experience for everyone!

Plan for approx. 30min clean up after class - pottery is a ton of fun but is messy! :D

What to wear: Wear comfortable, practical clothing and footwear that you are ok with getting muddy.

What to bring:

  • Apron (you can purchase a split leg apron here is you wish - see add on option)
  • Trimmed finger nails - it is very challenging to throw with long nails
  • A fun and playful, can do attitude!!! :D

Maximum  8 students/ class

Any class interrupted by government issued COVID measures will be postponed and reinstated after restrictions are lifted.

Kristen took her first pottery class in 2018 and has been hooked since! When she's not working her day job filled with numbers and spreadsheets she's spends time with her son outside, tends to her collection of plants and of course makes pots!
