Our five-week Beginner Wheel Throwing class takes you through the basic steps of throwing, trimming, and glazing cylinder-based forms on a pottery wheel at our studio on Kelly Lake Road in Sudbury, Ontario.
During each two-hour lesson, you will be guided through finding your personal approach to the potter’s wheel. Sessions are open to beginners and those with wheel experience.
All materials and tools will be provided, including clay, glazes, and a beginner tool kit.
Please arrive 15 minutes early for your first class to ensure we can kick off promptly at 6 PM. Each class will end with approximately 30 minutes' clean up; pottery is a ton of fun but it's messy :D
What to wear:
Wear comfy clothes and footwear you're okay getting a little bit dirty in. We recommend removing rings, bracelets/watches, or long nails before coming to class.
What to bring:
- Apron
- A fun and playful, can-do attitude!
What to expect:
Week 1: Intro & wreck-it class
In this class, we walk through the basics of wheel throwing. The goal is to throw until you wreck it; we don't keep any of the pieces made in this class.
Weeks 2 & 3: Throw to keep it
Spend class time practicing skills from Week 1, with the intent of keeping your completed pieces.
Week 4: Trimming & attaching handlesÂ
Learn how to trim your thrown pieces, and how to pull and attach handles to your pieces.
Week 5: Glazing
Learn how to apply glaze to your pieces after they’ve been dried and bisque-fired.
